Lengthy Recovery? Any tips for reassurance (aka sanity)?

Hey all! I'm new to this forum but looks like many may be going through what I'm going through so I'm hoping for some words of encouragement and/or advice. I had a microdisectomy on March 27 for a L1/S5 herniation. I had reoccurring pain for 3+ years and different failed treatments until the pain went off the charts 2 weeks post partum and I was finally referred for an MRI and the real cause known. My pain has only been on my right side through this journey (thankfully). I'm currently in PT (again) for some post op strengthening and correction. I'm about 7 weeks post op. Each morning, I'm almost in tears with the pain. It seemed to get a little better immediately following surgery, but has recently fallen off a cliff (which lead me to seek out these boards). I'm currently taking hydrocodone 5-325 and 50mg of tramadol 4-5 times a day. The meds help control the pain but make me sleepy. Please tell me that this will get better. My surgeon said it could take up to 8 months and beyond.... Anyone have any advice to offer? TIA!!!
L5/S1 herniation 3 years ago. I tried physical therapy, 2 chiropractors, acupuncture, and cortisone shots before my microdisectomy on March 27, 2014. I have a 7 month old so I hope recovery will happen so I can keep up with her.
