TLIF and strain on already arthritic knees

Hi ... I had a TLIF two level fusion three months ago and am generally doing better .... However, there must be some of you out there who have arthritic knees as well as arthritic backs. Did you find the op and recovery took a toll on your knees? I was off my Naproxen for six weeks post op and though I am back on it now, in general my arthritis has become worse in my knees and my hands. I need a knee replacement and will see my back surgeon tomorrow for xrays and three months consultation and will ask him how soon he thinks I could risk having my knee done .... I obviously don';t want to slow down my back recovery in any way, but the knee is so bad that it is stopping me from walking as much as I would like ... a no win situation!
Any advice from anybody in a similar position would be appreciated!

  • One of my knees is killing me. I just had X-ray and MRI and am awaiting an appt with an Ortho. It's definitely a lot worse since my fusion. I'm sure it's from all the squatting. I've tried to do wall squats to strengthen my quads, but it only makes the pain worse. Sorry I do t have any advise. I just wanted to let you know you're not alone. Good luck!
