They Burned our bridges

They burned the bridges
the carousel is rusty
and the paths lie dusty, save for the prints we left behind

the flowers un watered except for our tears, fed by fears and worn broken gears
the turn-rows unused, as the plows are misused
and the crops are unsown, the fields over grown by briars and hedge fences keep us from their view

an unsavory pair, with our hands in the air, asking for mercy unshown
the grace of their lives with all of the lies and with mercy unknown
etched in their faces the loud empty places with words and deeds ungrown

the braggart, the liar, the paths are afire with their passing
as for us... the beggar in stasis
the homely. the graceless
how dare we show them the face of their fears
the longing, the tears

embarrassed to see us, with the longing to free us
they put us away from the sight
for fear of catching they might...

they say that they hear us
but dont get too near us
contagious and catching they say

to remind them of sadness
of burden and madness
is to much of the geiss to break

but here on the island
with Beast and the highlands between them and us
alone with our pain
the cold and the rain
embers to ashes to dust

the bridges they burned where the safety is earned
litter the gulf in between
their world and mine
i take as a sign
there's their world and mine

If they look to the west
through fire and test
they see the light still shines

as we huddle together
in all stormy weathers
the little village lantern...
a beacon of hope
at the end of the rope

the bridges they burned
were rebuilt in turn
and they cross over mote
to find
the old link
between their heart and mine
still lingers
still shines

for all us forgotten, put aside and unknown until they need us
remember your humanity
"they" see us as they see themselves in the darkened mirror, remind them of their own human frailty
and it scares them
our strength
courage and capacity for humanity in the face of the death of our old life
born anew every day

they forget us until they need us
be strong
be forgiving of those who gave up on you

Beautiful. From your friend here "around the little village lantern". Always be there for them when they need us. We have so much to give. More compassionate & loving because of our struggles.
