Herniated disc / lower back pain

Hello! I wanted to create a new post to share my story, to see if anyone had this problem in particular. I am 23 years old, and i got a herniated disc that started as a low back pain in my L4-L5. The pain had been there for about a month and a half and it was so bad that it was hard for me to sleep, sit and walk. I was so scared and frustrated. As I spent more time resting that seemed to make it worst. I went to the chiropractor which was very kind and helped me read my MRIs and Cts. Even though I think the treatment aggravated it more because at the beginning with the X rays they didnt know it was a herniated disc and he just thought i was stiff or it was a simple back pain. I made an appointment with the specialist and they gave me oral steroids with some non- antiflammatory drugs. It was good at the beginning but after I finished the steroids the pain came back. They said I might have to get steroid shots called blockages and if that didnt work surgery might be necessary. I started worrying even more, how come this was happening to a 23 year old. I am active and I have been a vegetarian for almost 6 years now, so it had nothing to do with my weight, it just started as a sudden movement. I recurred to this lady who my friend recommended since she had been having back pain for a month. She did magnet therapy and the pain got incredibly better. It still hurt but I was starting to be able to sleep a little more. Me and my mom had done some theta healing courses ( which is a meditation were you connect to a brainwave in your brain and start working on yourself) (i know its very hard to believe) I did both therapies without having any medications, only natural remedies and supplements. And I had never felt better in these past 2 months. Sometimes we dont notice but we are lacking nutrients or we are so scared that we only make the pain worst for ourselves. I know it is so hard, and I know how it feels to have that unbearable pain. But even though its hard, your mind is so powerful that you have no idea what it can accomplish. This experience has probably been the hardest I have ever had. And I am still getting through it, but I just wanted to share my story just in case it can help anyone or give someone the example that it can be possible. I am still not 100% , and I still check with my doctor as im writting this while I wait in his office. I am not saying it is the solution for anyone but it is what is working for me. I would love to hear other similar stories since I know im not alone in the subject! I will keep the situation updated :)! Thank you

  • Hi!
I am also young, 24, and have had two discectomies. Mine was really bad though--rock climbing accident, and then after 3 pregnancies a different disc gave out.

But I, too, believe in the power of the body. I do yoga every day, and I fell in love with green smoothies and the wonders that clean eating has done for my body. I'm healthy, and I'd love to be more active, but genetics has played me a bad hand and my discs keep degenerating.

Thank you for sharing your story, though. I'd be interested to hear more about what you did and how it worked for you.
