SIJ Fusion using IFuse

I have been reading through the posts and they are quite old. Has anyone recently had an si fusion done using ifuse ?? In 2013/2014 ? I am having one done on Aug 5 2014. I would welcome reading anyone's story. I'm wondering about recovery. I just had L5 and S1 hemi-laminectomies and decompression in February 2014. Had previously (last year ) had an Si joint injection that gave me some relief for a few days. Then had an RFA of the si joint which was extremely painful. Never really could tell if that did anything bc the pain was so much worse for a few weeks after. So after this surgery in feb (had lots of nerve compression that was cleaned out ).... I'm still in constant pain and basically confined to my bed :(. So I had another Si joint injection last month and had a good 48 hours or so of pain relief (actually was able to sit for 40 mins straight with NO pain ). So neuro said an si fusion would be the next step. I've been through the ringer the past 5 years. Drs unable to find cause of pain. Have done everything under the sun to try to get rid of this pain. Finally found a dr last year that saw a little something on MRI (turned out to be a lot more than the MRI showed )
So anyway, just curious if anyone on here has had the fusion done recently.

Thanks ,

  • If you use the search feature, you will find lots of threads of those who have undergone this surgery in the last 18-24 months.
It may be that the SI joint was the cause of your pain all along, and that may be why the pain relief has been less than good so far.
One thing about the rhizotomy, is that the pain flares for a few weeks post rhizotomy due to it taking a bit of time for the nerve fibers to die off.....so that may be why you had increased pain post procedure. Someone should have explained that to you......the test injections are just to see if you get pain relief during the period of time that the injection is supposed to be in effect...
  • Thanks Sandi. I will use the search feature.
