Pain after Spinal Fusion

I had a discectomy in 2005, and back only got worse. I finally relented and have a fusion on L5-S1. I feel as though this was the worst decision of my life. I had to stop working due to all the pain and complications, my leg pain has only gotten worse and now I am losing all control in that leg at times. Dr just says it's nerve damage.
This has severely limited my lifestyle, afraid to do anything b/c I never know when I am going to lose it and do a face plant. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what did you do that helped?
Thank you!
