20 yrs old, recurring pain in one neck muscle

So basically, what happened was one day I must have twisted it wrong or something before I thought I felt something tear in my neck. For several days after that I couldn't tilt my head to the left because there was an agonizing amount of tension in a muscle behind my ear like something will tear again if i bend it too much. . the pain eventually faded. Then one day i took a nap, woke up, and the pain was back again for a few days.

today i was sitting down and i looked over my right shoulder too far, felt a small pop, and the pain is back once again. no clue what it is or what sort of permanent damage i might have done to my neck to warrant this.

Any ideas?
