microdiscectomy vs open discectomy with interspinous spacer

last year i got a l5-s1 disc hernia, i got injured by lifting in the wrong posture and also wrong weight doing cross fit. i need to make a very important decision and i want to make sure that i choose the best for me, the thing is, before my injury, i practiced many high impact sports like montain biking, snowboarding, kiteboarding, wake boarding, and i used to do it HARD!. so the first neurosurgeon and he recommended me an open discectomy with an implant of a interspinous spacer to help and support the weakened disc, the i went for a second opinion, and the second surgeon told me that i was going to be ok with a microdiscectomy and also being able to do my sports again. i don't want to mess it up with the wrong decision, so I'm really hoping this forum could help me get some information about it.
