Sciatica After Micr0discectomy

After suffering from severe sciatica for over a year, I had my Micro discectomy done almost one week ago on L4/L5 and am still having some nerve pain in the affected leg. I felt good the first day with no nerve pain and then the nerve pain seemed to come back, but not as severe as before I had the surgery. I was hoping that all the sciatica would disappear after surgery. So, at this point, the results are a bit disappointing. Is it possible I reherniated the disk, the day after surgery or am I just having persistent nerve irritation that may or may not resolve?

  • Izzy. Sorry to about your symptoms my best advice would be to call your surgeon ASAP if not already. Their are so many factors that could cause the symptoms to return. I have spoken to many people and friend that had the same surgey we had and had your results. Most of them the pain recited after a few months and others had to have another surgery as the doctors missed some of the disk. The only way to truly tell is to have another MRI which I would request if possible if the pain is that bad. They gave me oxy and muscle relaxers along with stool softeners. I am sure you will get through this. Stay strong and positive.
