Hi, I am new to this site and Forum and have a question. I am considering First, a Anterior Cervical Discectomy for
Degenerative Disc Disease and Cervical Stenosis. Then later Lumbar Fusion for the C4-C5....
I am very frightened by the thought of these surgeries. I have a excellent Orthopedic Surgeon however I have not
had a second opinion done. He has explained the Lumbar surgery very well as he thought this area bothered me most.
But since our talk my neck has gotten worse plus I choke and pain goes down my arms when this happens so I
know that neck is quite bad.
I have never had surgery anything like this before. I am very concerned. I have a form of Neuropathy that has
caused my esophagus to stop moving food down and with this cervical surgery it scares me to death that I won't
be able to eat any more at all.
The areas of my Cervical spine are C3-C4, C4-C5, and C5-C6...I believe all three will have work done on them
and be fused. I don't have any idea of how much I will be able to move afterward, how long I will have to wear
a neck collar or how much and how long I will have pain.
Has anyone had any similar surgeries in the past?
