Ct scan shows I'm worse but I thought I was getting a little better!

Hi everyone,
It's been about 5 months since I herniated a disc in my back. I have tried every conservative treatment available to me minus the epidural injection. My pain is always bad but I felt lately that I can do more thing and last longer on my pain meds. I feel like I was maybe getting better. Well I just has a follow up ct scan that showed the exact opposite!!! The radiologist compared my current scan with my previous scan and this one was showing the herniation larger and worse than the previous scan. How is that even possible when i thought my pain was getting better. I I'm so discouraged and upset by this news.
Did anyone heal on their own without surgery? Would love to hear some words of encouragement :)

  • if the herniation isn't in contact with a nerve root or the canal, that may be why you are experiencing less pain but the herniation can still cause problems. When do you see the surgeon for follow up?
  • I had 3 shots which helps for awhile.
  • The herniation is still in contact with the si nerve. I still have bad pain and can't function without my pain meds. However I felt that my calf pain is becoming less and less. My back and glute pain still remains. I am just so shocked that the ct scan shows my herniation is larger. I'm so upset. I am scheduled for an epidural in September sometime. Just waiting for a call back. Very scared about the epidural injection. It's under fluoroscopy and I'm panicking already and I'm not even close to getting it done.
