upcoming l4-5 microdiscectomy with laminotomy....any tips.

So I injured my back on 10/11/13 and have been unable to work since. My injury was origanally being processed through workers comp but after only covering the initial er visit, granting an mri but only after being told by the employee health dr that I would not be cleared to return to full duty and one post mri visit to a spine surgeon before dening my entire case. So all treatment was then placed on hold until April 2014, when following the comission hearing which also denied my claim. I am now in the process of an appeal but in the meantime using my insurance for treatment. My mris(3) intotal have shown central protrusion at l-4, deep left lateral herniation at l4-5 and nerve root impingement to the left at both l4-5/ l5-s1. Since April I have completed 12 weeks of PT, and have had a total of 4 injections, one on the right and 3 on the left. I have seen ( not including the original specialist) a total of 3 surgeon who wanted nothing to do with touching my back and I was told to "live with it, and go back to work" even though despite PT and multiple injections could not stand more than 20-30 max at a time with out severe pain in my back and down my left left.also, about a month agomy lower left leg went completely numb.
So I finally get into a good surgeon who couldnt believe that nothing had bee done yet. So anyway I'm having surgery on september17, and while I'm happy I am still scared. Iguess my man question is will I every be able to go back to work as a nursing assistant and if so when.
Thanks sorry its so long
