This is my first time on this site and am in need of some testimony of similar experiences with Degenerative Disc Disease. My back has progressively gotten worse over the years with cervical, thoracic and especially lumbar pain. I have seen many doctors through the years and some wanted to do surgery (but I didn't trust them) and others dismissed me. I have been given many meds, creams, tens unit, therapy, and also many diagnostic and therapeutic injections. I recently had a discogram on L3-S1 and was told that all of my discs were bad and had fissures and tears in them. I feel like my nerves are being sandwiched when I stand and the pain radiates from my lumbar to my buttocks, and sometimes to my inner thigh. I don't get a lot of sleep at night as I wake up in pain across my lumbar, buttocks and hips. I can barely bend over to pick something up and always have to brace myself just to sneeze. My last doctor told me I wouldn't be a candidate for the new artificial disc replacement procedure because I would still have pain and that a three or four level fusion in his surgical experience has proven to be unsuccessful leaving patients still in pain. At this point I am very frustrated because my pain is affecting the quality of my life. I am only 53 years old and want to enjoy life. I don't know if I should just stay with a pain management doctor or keep looking for an experienced doctor who deals with DDD. Is there anyone who can offer any positive suggestions to me from their own experiences.
