L4 & L5 Fusion Rehab

I had surgery 8 weeks ago, L4 & L5 Fusion. My right leg is still very weak and I still have the nerve pain in my upper right leg.
How much longer will the weakness and pain last, I am getting extremely frustrated and impatient. I see my Dr next week and can't wait to ask these questions.
Thank you

  • Nerves can take several months to heal. Are you currently in physical therapy? If not, then I would ask about that. I had muscle atrophy and leg weakness which physical therapy helped with. If the nerve pain is that bothersome, you can also ask about starting a medication specifically for nerve pain: Gabapentin, Lyrica, Amitriptyline, and Topomax are just some that are frequently used. Walking is also important. That will help with some of the weakness.

  • mine was done 12 days ago. I am using a walker for outdoor walks and did 20 minutes this morning with some fatigue. I have post-op nerve pain down my right leg which I was told was the result of nerve pressure during surgery. they said it should be temporary and go away eventually but that it could take awhile. I was told that the foot pain on my left side would likely never go away. The intensity of discomfort varies daily thus far though the foot always seems worse at night. my butt pain and pain dow to the knees from before surgery seem to be gone.
