Facet Fusion in addition to interbody fusion

I had a L5-s1 anterior posterior lumbar fusion with instrumentation 20 months ago. I had a severe retrolisthesis. For 1 year after recovering I had zero back pain. Recently I have started having back pain again. My surgeon wants to remove the rods and screws. I have a solid interbody fusion but he also attempted to pack the facets with bone and the facets may not be solidly fused. Does anyone have any insight into how important the facet part of the fusion is to spine stability and my decision to remove hardware?
