rehab for the elderly

Hi, I'm new, call me Nonni. Can't find info I need and came across this site.
My 85yo Dad lives in a separate apartment below me. On 9/4/14 he fell in our driveway and was alone for 3 hours before I found him. First hopsital ER said no damage and sent him home. 1-1/2 days later, took him to a diff ER - found he had severely broken his back (snapped clean thru between t11 and t12). He had 3 above/3 below fusion surgery on the 7th, went to rehab on the 11th and they're saying they're going to discharge him on 10/4. They say I have to put him to bed and take his brace off, get him up in the am, brace back on. And the whole thing has caused him to become incontinent. Plus plan meals, shop, cook, clean, laundry, mail, paperwork, pills everything. I have no "network" I work, am married, have to run my own house, stay healthy, rested and sane. I say he needs longer time at the rehab. So my question is: Is 23 days normal?
