So I am a 39 yr old female with multiple other health problems other than back (long term). I have L5 pars defect (spondylolysis) L5-S1 isthmic spondylolisthesis grade II and L5 radiculopathy. I have gone through, PT, ESI, Pars injections and more pain meds than I want to think about. I am scheduled for surgery on the 30th of this month, I am excited to think maybe it will help in the long run and so nervous because I have no clue what will be done. I have tried reading as much as possible but I'm not sure exactly what is going to be done. I know they are using rods, screws and bone graft, so I am guessing fusion? I don't know where graft is coming from. As I read things, I don't know how much will apply to me. Drainage tubes, caths, braces? The Dr laughed when I asked if I would go home the same day and said that I would be there 3 or 4 days at least and would hate him because he wouldn't give enough meds to take all the pain away the first two weeks???. I have 3 appointments on the 21st, one with the medical clearance team, one with surgeon and one with anesthesiologist.
Bottom line is I'm trying to figure out what questions to ask the Drs and what kind of equipment I should ask if they are going to send home with me or if I need to make arrangements for it myself. It is one of the best/biggest hospitals on the east coast and my insurance pays for everything with no problems.
