Bulging Disc in lower back

I got injured at work and pulled several muscles in my lower back. I went through numerous physical therapy sessions and different types of medication. I informed my doctor my pain left the muscles but felt like it moved to my tailbone region. They took X rays and saw nothing and scheduled a mri. They found 3 bulging disc's 2 of which are in the center of my back and 1 in my lower back pushing against a nerve. The doctor told me I need to go to a ortho specialist to get injections. The doctor is quite confident that the injections should cure the 2 disc's in the center of my back but is worried I might need surgery for the lower back disc. My question is what normally should I expect with these injections. Will I need time off work, is it a one time thing, and length of recovery. Also, if I need surgery what does that inclelude? Do I need time off work and length of recovery? And is it the specialist choice to have me get surgery or is it mine if I feel the injections aren't working? I understand recovery and everything else depends on the patient I'm just asking like a average time frame. Thank you
