Sorry, I'm brand new, so feel free to point me in the right direction if this is the wrong spot.
Does anyone know of a reclining wheelchair with power assist (not fully motorized)? I would be fine with fully motorized, I guess, if I could find one that was fairly compact and fit in the back of my minivan without any vehicle mods (not covered by insurance).
I suffer from several chronic conditions (stenosis, arachnoiditis, degenerative disc disease, etc.). It's gotten to the point where I can barely walk. My last physical eval, it took me 3 minutes to walk 20 feet, with 2 stops to rest. So, my doc wants me in a wheelchair.
He recommended I get a wheelchair that reclines, as most of my trouble is in the lower back, and sitting really hurts. He also wants me to get a power assist wheelchair, since it hurts to push the wheelchair, especially going up or down hills or long distances.
I thought it would be easy to find something like an e-motion but I can't find any that recline.
I'm thinking maybe I could get a manual reclining chair and add on something like a smartdrive . I worry insurance won't cover that, and it's super expensive.
Otherwise, I'm stuck looking at a full on motorized wheelchair. This would be fine, except I'd have to get a new vehicle, since these things are not very portable.
So, any thoughts?Post Edited by Liz spine-health moderator
