Hi! I'm a new member looking for help in the world of navigating insurance, finding the right type of care, etc.
I've been suffering with chronic pain for years and years. I've been diagnosed with a myriad of disorders, including stenosis, partial paraplegia, adhesive arachnoiditis, etc.
I'm on long term disability, and I can't believe how complex and frustrating it is dealing with insurance.
I had to switch doctors a couple of months ago due to a move, and my new doc doesn't seem to grasp the extent of my pain. I worry that she won't be as supportive as necessary when I'm working with insurance. For example, she hinted that he couldn't see why I wouldn't be cleared for work once we find the right mix of meds, even if it includes a morphine pump and/or oral narcotics. So, I'm worried I'll have to replace her, but I worry I'll end up with someone even worse. FWIW, numerous doctors I saw in my old town said that short of a miracle, I'd never be able to work again.
Right now I'm also trying to find the right kind of medical equipment to help me have a bit of a normal life. I'd love a reclining motorized wheelchair, but my insurance doesn't cover modifications to vehicles, so that doesn't seem practical (we'd need a lift, if not an entirely new/bigger van). I'm now trying to find a reclining wheelchair that has power assist of some kind, to balance power and portability, but I can't find anything.
Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. I'm looking forward to participating in the community. I'm new to this, but I hope I'll be able to help out as much as I get helped. Thanks for reading!
