A pain in the neck

. I'm new to this but want to share my story and see if anyone out am there has had or is having the same issues.
I am a 53 year old women and have suffered 24 years of neck pain after a sideways whiplash I was told for years it was soft tissue damage but over the last 3 years my condition got worse until I had very few days being pain free and couldn't do much at all without incurring a lot of pain . After seeing a NS a CT scan showed that my condition was very unstable and I needed to have had a C/1 C/2 fusion operation which I had on the 4th May this year with pins and bone graft.
I am still getting a lot of head aches that are generally on the right side of my head along with flickering behind my right eye and what seems to be a knot in the back of my neck again on the right side. I cant seem to do much as in general house work without having pain after wards. I wake up with pain in my neck as well.
It has been suggested by the NS that I may need a steroid injection to help settle things down.
Is there anyone else out there who has experienced or is going through this?
I thought I would be pain free and being able to jump out of air plains by now. lol.

Any thoughts and thoughts would be very much appreciated.
