I was wondering if anyone has had issues with smoking after ACDF. I had ACDF c-3 - c6 on Nov.5 and have to admit I've smoked a little since I came home. My throat is more sore when I first wake up and I am still on antibiotics.

  • Smoking can play a huge role in failed fusions.... A sore throat is the least of your worries in my opinion! BE CAREFUL!
Realize that FEAR is our worst enemy. Get up & get out in that stormy weather of the real world & kick fear in the teeth. Stare at it dead in the eyes & walk right through it into the storm; because once you're wet, you won’t fear the rain anymore

And it could cause fusion failure. And yes doctors ask to stop smoking months before acdf surgery.Take it from an ex smoker,it's not worth taking that chance. I had ACDF C4/5/6/7 in 2011 and since then I'm an ex smoker and believe me : I didn't miss it at all..Good luck! Nick ACDF C4/5/6/7.
