Hi all I'm new here,

Just wondering if I can ask a few questions please?

I have recently attended an appointment with my spinal consultant who has told me I have a fractured facet joint in my spine. The pain has been going on since childhood and only been found now, as the pain was referred to my hips so that was the only place that was x-rayed. He has referred me for a CT scan to check the state of the bones as it's never been done before.

First of all is a facet fracture common? I've never heard of this before!

Also I've been told I have divets or dimples in my discs. Does anyone know what this could be as he didn't cover it as he said it's nothing to be concerned about just yet?

I do have to go and see him again after my CT scan so will ask more questions next time, just I'm a bit puzzled.

Thanks :)

It's always a good idea to start a 'Pain Note Book'. Keep a list of all your concerns & questions. Traveling to appointments & sitting around makes my pain sky rocket & I often forget to ask. Also take notes of what they say to you. I think about stuff on the way home & it's really frustrating.

I'm glad you're finally getting some answers. It must be such a relief after all this time.

We often complain about all the technical language that specialists use. It's like a foreign language. I've also had docs that over simplify things for me & that's just as bad!! I have no idea what they could mean by "divets & dimples". I'm sure he will take you through your diagnostics with you & explain properly. That's something for the notebook!!

I don't know how common a facet joint fracture is. Do you have arthritis in them or just the fracture on its own? I wonder why it hasn't healed after all this time. My facet joints are, "Completely messed-up". HaHaHa simple doc language! I'm sorry. I really don't know what options your doc will give for that. It will be interesting to know what he says. Is it really painful all the time? When's your appointment? It's horrible waiting with questions & worries isn't it? Frustrating! Ugh!
