Question about sex after surgery

I had my L5 -S1 fusion 11.5 weeks ago and I've been feeling pretty good, given the circumstances. It seemed like the right time to try to be intimate with my boyfriend again. He's been patient and supportive but I want to stop feeling like a broken old lady and more like the 27 year old woman that I am.

I've searched the forums and saw a lot of post about pain but I didn't see anything about lack of sensation. Can a spinal fusion cause lack of sensation in your lady bits? I have some numbness in my left groin area but noticed nothing centrally until I tried getting intimate. I'm also on Gabapentin which might also have something to do with it.

Are their any women out there who have had a similar experience? I don't feel comfortable asking my doctor. He talks to me like I'm a child sometimes so this would really screw up the doctor - patient relationship.
