Hi All -- I'm Lauren and I am new to this site. On Friday, I had emergency surgery due to a 6cm herniated disc between L4 and L5. I started having pain Weds, went to the ER, where they said it was sciatic and gave me pain meds. I lost bladder control Friday afternoon, with numbness from waist down. From there, I went to the ER where I had an MRI done and found out about the cauda equina.
I returned home Sunday evening, and though there is still numbness and heaviness in mostly my feet and butt, I seem to be recovering pretty well.
I came to this site looking for support; I have never bad back issues before, and didn't do anything to my knowledge that caused such a herniated disc. I am also a 27-year-old mom of a beautiful 13-month-old, Viviana. Being in such a dependent and immobile state with a toddler is the most difficult thing I have ever endured, but I am trying to stay positive and strong for her. It kills me I can't get my baby out of bed, or off to daycare, go on our daily walk, feed her, bath her, etc. I was primarily a stay-at-home for her first year, and I was just getting back into my real estate career last month. Everything felt like it was going in the right direction, and then this curve ball hit, and I am having a hard time balancing it all.
I know this post was a little all over the place, but hopefully I can find others who can share their stories of recovery. I want to be able to do all the things I did with my baby girl just a week ago, but I know patience is essential for with this sort of recovery.
Thank you for reading and sharing your stories!
