Incision breaking open 4 yrs post op

So my daughter is 16 - had T3 to L4 fused and rods placed 4 yrs ago (almost exactly four years) and was an upper curve of 76 and a lower comp. curve of 45 or 54. pretty s curve ... All went well and she recovered.

Recently had 5th knee surgery due to a torn meniscus and patella femoral ligament, and finally found a dr to help her! However after last surgery, she was itchy from narcs and we noticed her incision up at the was breaking open, about an inch now, and has been off and for a few weeks.

Her PT for her knee noticed her messing with it & said watch it, it's bloody and oozy at times, then it scabs then busts open. Now there's a small area at the end breaking open. He thought maybe an old suture didn't dissolve, or even something worse and spoke to her
doctor about it (we're in a small town now so everyone knows everyone), and she said make an appt... she wants to culture it and do xrays. Can't get an appt til Jan 2, however was told they are concerned due to several things.

1) when she had her second knee surgery, she got a staph infection and then after the Picc Iine and strong meds, ended up needing the allograft ligament and hardware removed as she rejected something
2) Has had flare up of the staph in her knee several times in the past few months, preceding and post surgery.
3) she has a metal issue, with earring and such; she can't tolerate the metal, her ears blossom red and ooze.

My question is has anyone had a late surgical site infection or rejection of the metal? after all we've been through I really worry that there's more to this poor kids saga...
