Hi everyone,

My name is Michael and I have been suffering from chronic back pain for just over 2 years now. My injury was caused by a high speed impact during a car accident.

For the last 2 years I have been getting treated for suspected back pain causing nerve compression to the S1 nerves due to a broad based disc bulge at the l5/s1 joint. However today I saw my specialist and he thinks they may have missed something as I have had no improvement after 2 years of various treatments including injections. Needless to say I am rather xxxx as I have been saying this for nearly 2 years that there is more going on.

They now think I may have damaged my Sacrum and Ilium. So they are proposing injections into the Sacro-Illiac joints to try and see if this is the problem. Have any of you been through this process?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

  • Hi, sorry to hear this. I've had chronic back pain for almost two years now following chiropractic work :-( My first treatment (after physiotherapy) was facet and sacro-illiac joint injections. I had a "waking sedative" and fell asleep after so I only remember the first couple of needles. I do remember they were painful, but they definitely provided me with some relief which enabled me to keep working. Unfortunately my relief was short-lived, because I know other people for whom they were 100% effective for a considerable period of time. The fact that this wasn't the case for me was used diagnostically to suggest it wasn't my facet or sacrial joints being the root cause - that at least was useful information as was the short term limited relief. I had further, different, injections - these also ruled out other causes and led to a diagnosis of Chronic Pain Syndrome. Explore your options and take the positives for what they are.

    Good luck.
