Recovery and Severity of Pain

I went in for a normal discetomy which I was told was on my L-2 L-3
returning home and after a several days of severe pain, my surgeon scheduled me for a Discogram - not feeling comfortable with my surgeon I reached out to a referred back specialists that would only agree to see me once I sent him my results from the discogram and Mri prior to surgery.
I was called the same day and told to come in now.
The Doctor showed me that my original Dr. had removed the Facet Joint completely and my discs had collapsed. I had immediate surgery and I had to have a titanium cage with rods placed around my L-2 L-3 with Fusion.
So that was Surgery #2 all within 4 weeks.
Then a week after the 2nd surgery one of the Spacers had worked its way out and my surgeon had to open me back up remove cage replace spacer . This surgery put me into 3 days of ICU because my body had not been able to make enough blood within that short of time and they could not get my blood pressure above 76.
Then it seems that my Original Diagnosis was wrong and it was actually my left SI Joint with hardware.
long story short within 2 years I have had 21 procedures and 4 surgeries.
I have been in PT working on my soft tissues and building my core strength and I have been doing Acupuncture to help with pain.
I went back to work a week after each surgery as we have a family business and I am single. So I have a bed in my office that I rest when I cannot sit any longer, I work from laptop at reception desk so I can stand.
All in All I have after 2 years I have reached my threshold, the pain is so debilitating it is hard to describe and i do not know what to do or where to go.
I cannot dwell on what was done I need to know what I can do moving forward. Pain has affected myself and everyone in my life.
Would really appreciate any suggestions.
thank you

  • You have a good attitude on moving forward and I can sympathize with your pain. I am 9 months our from having 5 lumbar fusions and a second surgery 2 weeks after the fusions to scrub the staph infection off the hardware and clean out the large surgery area. I am still in recovery and rehab. and have a long way to go until I am healed. The one thing that has helped me the most, besides a very supportive family, is going to a warm water therapy pool and doing the pool exercises that my physical therapist has recommended. The pool is 93 degrees and it is soothing to my whole body and mind. In the pool I can walk without a cane and do core exercises that I would be unable to do on land. I hope you will be able to find some answers that will lessen your pain.

I'd be up and arms by now. Going through all those procedures and you said it was wrong!
So if I get you correctly everything was done on the wrong side?

Boy would I love to know the name of that doctor and medical institute.... Those type of things are well safe guarded today and should NEVER happen, at all.

Keep going as strong as you can. Good luck
