L5-S1 disc tear causing pain in left upper leg and numbness below the knee

For about a month and a half, I have been having pain in my upper leg, around the left hip area. A week ago I was diagnosed with a tear in my L5-S1 which was diagnosed with a CT Scan. The prognosis said :

"Slight degenerative narrowing of the posterior L5/S1 disc space. Early degenerative hypertrophies of the L5/S1 joints. No degenerative change seen at other disc levels. No vertebral body height loss. No suspicious bony lesion.

At L5/S1, there is a small broad based left-paracentral disc protrusion which is suspected to be compromising the left S1 nerve root origin."

The disc fluid has oozed out which is causing irritation hence pain in the left buttocks area almost everyday. My GP has prescribed administration of fine needle injection into L L5-S1 nerve root formina as per plain CT"

Also, a few weeks ago, while I was sitting I experienced numbness in my left leg which though it has recovered to a large extent, does still not have 100% sensation. This morning I got up with a pain worse than mornings before. Also, I have started getting fever from the last two days at night.

My Questions are :
1) Does this mean I have herniated disc as well?
2) Should I go in for the injection and do you think it would fix the numbness and pain?
3) Should I get a second opinion from a neurologist regarding the treatment options?
