T3-L2 fusion - burning/itching sensation deep in the back

I had a T3-L2 fusion back in July (so I'm about 6 months post-op) to correct a 95ish degree curvature caused by Scheuermann's Disease. I've been doing incredibly well and feel my recovery is going as smoothly as I could expect. In the past few months, I've noticed an occasional and irritating burning/itching sensation in my mid and upper back. It's not on the surface and if I even try to scratch where I feel the burning/itching sensation, I can't feel anything (I don't really have feeling on the skin anymore there). But scratching or rubbing doesn't help. Anyway, that sensation used to be in like one or two spots and it would only last for maybe 20 minutes or so. It certainly wasn't all day or every day. However, in the last 24 hrs that sensation has popped up in many spots on my back and it is really intense. It is painful and I feel like my back is burning under the surface. I'm on nerve blocking medications (a pretty high dose of Gabapentin) and think that if it were nerve pain that would help it. So now I'm stumped as to what is causing this sensation and if it is normal.

I'm at the point where I feel like I'm going nuts because it is so bothersome. It is starting to really hurt and it is very distracting. It hasn't stopped at all in the past 24 hrs and I'm trying to figure out my options. I'm not sure what to do. Anyone have something similar or ideas as to what this might be?
