Severe back pain after L4/S1 Fusion - Any feedback welcomed

My husband is about 6 weeks post op from his fusion. And about 4 weeks post op from a decompression. His back his been doing pretty good aside from some soreness. He's been walking with his walker and able to get in and out of bed pretty good. His pain has really been in his ankle and shin which is due to a nerve inflammed or bruised. About 4-5 days he has been getting severe back pain. He describes as stiffness, soreness and stabbing pains that make him scream in pain. He now can barely walk and cannot get out of bed without help. We already have had a recent CT and MRI done which the surgeon say look fine except for some minor inflammation. He really didnt have an explanation for this sudden pain in his back. We started PT but i dont think he can countine because he can barely move.

We've already been dealing with the leg pain and now he has this pain. I just dont know how we are are going to get through all this.

Has anyone dealt with this type of pain with a fusion this many weeks in? Was it sudden like his pain? Is there light at the end of this tunnel?
