Horse riding after microdiscectomy

Hi all

Just seeing if there are any fellow equestrians?

I had a m/c of L4/5 at the end of last year and am now thinking about timescales in terms of getting back on my horse....

I was planning March time, but have to do lots of groundwork with him first anyway (backed last year). I am doing pilates and lots of walking to get fitness back up. How did people find it? I know I will need to build up slowly - its a risk sport anyway, so nothing about that has changed. I still have some lower back stiffness, but I think thats to be expected after surgery (plus my facet joints were inflamed & one other disc was degenerated too). Did riding help? Did surgery have any impact on your riding? My position pre op was awful (due to pain which I just pushed on through) & I can now 'get to' my core muscles which I couldn't before, so feeling positive about it.....
