Back problems just keep on coming.

In Nov 2013, I had a Laminectomy from L3 to L5 to open up my spinal canal to help with severe Sciatica down both legs. The process went well and I had no pain until I started therapy. 2nd session I felt a pop and had severe pain down my left leg. I did 4 more sessions where they tried to work it out but it got worse. Next I went to pain management where I had 5 steroid injections at L4-L5 trying to calm everything down. No relief so back to surgery.
In Nov 2014, I had a micro discectomy on L4-L5 to shave the disc. That seemed to go well. I woke up with no pain and walked the halls of the hospital a few hours later. While walking, my left leg tried to give out but I didn't think anything of it. Went home that day, started up the stairs and fell on my face. My left leg had no strength. When I took off the surgical stockings, I also discovered that I had no feeling in the top of my thigh through the knee and into my calf.
Since the surgery, I have had 2 rounds of steroids, a new MRI, 2 EMGs and 2 nerve conduction studies. I went to my surgeon last week for results and I am now being told I have issues at L1-L2. All tests point to the nerve from there being compressed and my latest MRI shows that a small bulge is much larger now. However, no one can explain how this happened while I was having surgery at L4-L5.
Surgeon has sent me to physical therapy to try to regain some strength in my leg. He offered more steroid injections but, since you are only supposed to do 3 in a year and I have had 5, I said no.

Has anyone here had an issue at L1-L2 with no pain but loss of strength and feeling like I have? If so, did it clear up or did you have to have surgery??
