Hi I'm new here but have been lurking a long time.

About 6 years ago I was caught up in a fence with a horse drug then crushed (I was on the ground next to it as it took the fence down) . I fractured L5 as a result. Had no insurance and a year later found out why I was so miserable. I had an interbody fusion done in sep 2010. It sucked for months but I got better, even delivered a baby just over a year after.

So now here I am, my si joints hurt and swell, which has always been the case, however I'm lhaving pain in my low back again, often it goes down into the back of my knee (sciatica I'm guessing, or because my pelvis healed crooked). I am also having the sensation in my legs like I just got out of an ice cold river. They feel so cold but not to the touch, and more so my left leg. Seriously feels like I have wet frozen legs, but seems to be more after sitting for a period.

I was so pleased to have such little back pain, and now I'm feeling kind of bummed. Is this normal? To have the pain crop up years later? Has anyone had the freezing sensation in the legs?

I'm really looking to hear some experiences after surgeries/fusion as I don't know how this is going to play out. I hoping the pain is a temporary thing

  • Thank you! I see my dr today and am thinking about asking for some pt. I'm hoping its just some scar tissue messing things up. So I guess here is another question, my surgeon told me years ago that there are therapists that have special training for s.i issues...what do they do that's different?
