Any runners out there who had a C3 to C6 fusion?

Hi friends,
I'm 18 mos. out from my fusion. I have been a life-long fitness buff, and really got into running about 5 years ago. I was sidelined from running because of neck pain in 2012. The prior treatments failed for a year and prompted a neck fusion in 2013. I followed the post surgery protocol, and at 6 mos, my neurosurgeon cleared me to run. It now takes me a full 20 minutes to "warm up" my neck. That initial 20 mins is pretty painful so I walk/run. After that, the pain stops. Most of the time I am just fine, post run. Occasionally, it's pretty inflamed. I am getting conflicting info regarding running after neck surgery.
Is there anyone who having this experience?

  • I just had a C3-6 fusion w/corpectomy on Dec 8th. I've never been that painful with it, some pain, but not excruciating. My doc said I could run at 6 months again, but PT's are saying not to. I'll investigate more when I get closer to that time (I'm at 8+ weeks now). I'll watch your thread and see what other people say!
