I'm new to this forum and have enjoyed reading others post and hearing about their stories.
I have had lower neck and shoulder pain for 2.5 years. Started off with epidurals and trigger point injections. Tried the usual meds also, but nothing helped. Eventually the pain doctor sent me to consult with a neurosurgeon.
The surgeon told me I need ACDF at levels C3-C4 and C4-C5. Scheduled and everything went well with the surgery. Swallowing was the worst part for the few months after surgery. But I did not get relief from the shoulder and neck pain.
After about 2 months, the doctor sent me back to the pain doctor. We began with many meds that didn't work. Then moved on to many epidurals, trigger point injections and medial nerve blocks. The doctor last week scheduled me for a magnesium IV. I like the doctor and he pretty much admitted that he is running out of ideas.
I left his office and immediately found a new doctor for a second opinion. Very glad I did, after looking at all my imaging, he said my bones didn't graft. He is sending my for a new scan of Friday.
He said depending of the scan, he would put me on a bone stimulator or recommend surgery.
I have two questions if anyone here could please answer.
First, would a bone stimulator do anything now that I am 10 months post-op?
Second, what would the new surgery entail? Removal and start anew?
Thanks in advance for any help.
