Healing Process

I'm now 6 days post op having had an anterior cervical disc replacement and all is going very well :-)

I'm now a little concerned about the wound healing. The surgeon did internal stitches but finished off by using glue. I think the idea is that this reduces scarring. My worry now is that most of the glue has come out which has left like a channel (it's really hard to explain) in the middle which has kind of healed but the edges have not knitted together. Does anyone know if this is normal?

  • They did that to me too so you don't have to return to get stitches out. My scar is like that, kinda wide! As long as there is no blood or fluid coming out I was told its normal. If your worried please call your surgeon.

  • Hello,

Glad to hear you are doing well after your ACDF. My surgeon used some kind of sticky tape on mine. Not sure if it was just the glue with paper tape over it. Unless you look really close, you cannot see my scar at all.

    Good luck on your recovery!
