What is a

Herniated, Bulging, Slipped or Ruptured disc?

We would love to hear from members what they believe each of those are. (note , this is not a test - thus no wrong answers )

  • It was my understanding that herniated is a general term for slipped, bulging and ruptured as in you can have a herniated disc that is slipped, bulging or ruptured. Ruptured specifically means that the disc is cracked or split and the gel-like contents responsible for shock absorption begin to leak out of the disc.
  • they are all one in the same.

Bulging is just outside the normal dimensions of a disc but the nucleaus still intact
    Slipped, not sure
Herniated , the neucleus has been compromised and is pushing thru the annulus
Ruptured I would think is the worst and the neucleus is fully pushed thru or may be sequestered?
I know each can be mild, moderate or severe many other descriptive terms like broad based etc.
Those are my best guesses from my own MRI reports
Do your due dilegence, trust you know your body and question everything if it does not fit. Advocate for yourself and you will be suprised what will be revealed trusting your body and instinct.
  • I believe they all mean the same thing, and it's not fun. Not one teensy little bit!
