Hi all, I was due to have C6/7 disc replacement surgery 2 days ago for 3 month history of left arm and shoulder pain and numb 2 nd finger. When I saw neuro a month ago I couldn't have got in fast enough to have relief.
But one week prior to surgery my numbness went and pain had reduced to a tolerable level. It's almost impossible to talk to your surgeon without consult so I emailed without answer, I front up to surgery, waiting for my turn and asked to speak to him prior .
As I was next in, he arrived, and said if I had any doubt, don't, so I got dressed and went home..
I was extremely nervous about my first ever surgery and had to discern if the fear was the overriding factor to my decision.
As I am typing this at 3.30am I definitely have problems sleeping with the discomfort but I would not call it pain.
I have had crazy neural pain at the onset so compared to that I'm laughing, but compared to normal , well I'm not there either.....
I know if it comes back or worsens then I will present again for surgery and I'm glad I decided not to have it done this week. Now I have 2 weeks off work as this was prior arranged so I am going back to gentle pilates and walking after 3 months of just waiting for surgery, oh , and eating.....
So, I have to decide to start living with my decision instead of waiting .... This is a great forum to support each other as thus kind of pain can't readily be seen, nice to know others have gone before and discussed their journey, thanks for listening, better try and sleep now....
