acdf surgery fears

I just wanted to write a quick message about going in for 2 level acdf surgery as before I went in I couldn't find any info on what to expect of the surgery. There seemed to be a lot about the recovery but not anything to alleviate any fears of the actual surgery. I have since had my surgery 2 days ago and after stressing for weeks about anaesthetic, awareness, vomiting after surgery, immediate pain when coming round from the surgery I am happy to say I sailed through it and could kick myself for stressing so much and from what the aftercare staff at the hospital have said the vast majority of people come through the surgery the same as I did. I know there will be exceptions to the rule but I felt compelled to tell people who may be due to go in for the surgery not to stress too much as every possible effort is made by surgeons, anaesthetist and nurses to make your experience as stress and pain free as possible. 2 days on from the surgery and I'm home and yes I'm sore but to be honest my throat is more painful than my neck due to the anterior approach to the spine.

I just want to say that if you need this surgery try not to stress as there is every possibility that you will some through without a hitch.

I am 5 days away from my surgery, so I am in that dark fearful place right now. Thank you for posting this. I think I need to read it 5 times a day until my surgery. I try very hard to remember that of all ACDF's performed each day/month, it is usually newly diagnosed and those with complications that post in forums online. 8o)
    ACDF C5/6 & C67 scheduled for 02/24/2015
