upper and middle back pain from hiking

I am fine most days unless I go on long hikes when I start to feel pain in my lower thoracic region about where my rib cage ends.

Also sometimes I will start to get pain if I stand at the kitchen counter prepping food.

Once I have this pain this is little I can do except lie down on a bed or lean back in a leather recliner.

I'm glad we have laptops and smartphones so I can stay on the internet while reclining.

I can get some relief from the pain if I sit in a chair and lean forward but at an angle, either to the right or left side.

Thankfully I won't be in pain at night and wake fine with no residual pain.

I can hike for a mile or so before I start feeling discomfort.

It's not a severe pain but once I have I really prefer just lying down.

I'm going to be making an appointment soon but I thought I would check around at an online spine health forum.
