I'm a 20-year-old college athlete planning on getting a double microdiscectomy on my L4/L5 and L5/S1 discs sometime in the next month or two (to make a long story short, it was a sports related injury and the insurance company is dragging their feet in paying for the surgery). I got a cortisone shot about 3 weeks ago to tie me over until surgery, and it's already starting to wear off as my sciatica is slowly returning... My back has also been incredibly stiff the last week or so, and also before the shot.
My question is, has anyone had back stiffness before a discectomy that was relieved/wasn't as bad after their surgery? It's more stiff than it is painful, and I don't know if it's the irritation from the disc causing it, or if it's just general back stiffness/pain. I know the surgery should get rid of the radiating pain, but I can't find anything about it getting rid of stiffness...
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!!
