Sciatica from a herniated disc L5

jessica60524jjessica60524 Posts: 1

I'm new to this forum. I suffer with fibromyalgia and since last June a herniated disc.

I recently was told by the pain clinic to avoid surgery as the disc is not the worst they have seen. However I have been told by a surgeon to go for surgury - either a fusion or one where they remove the herniated part. I'm getting mixed opinions off of many people, I really do not know what to do. I recently had the steroid injection but this has not helped and I'm still suffering with the nerve pain and pins and needles. I work at a desk for a living and the pain from sitting is very bad and getting worse.

Has anyone one had a successful surgery ? I have been told a mix of good and bad and that sometimes it works and other times scar tissues form and still presses on the nerves. I have never had surgery before and find the whole idea very scary.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Does anyone know any great surgeons in south england?

Kindest Regards
