Recovery time for Laminectomy/ Cauda Equina Syndrome

edited 03/05/2015 - 9:02 PM in Recovering from Surgery
Hi! I was supposed to have a discectomy on L4/L5 on December 1, but ended up having a laminectomy instead due to some issues. My neurosurgeon said I had cauda equina syndrome as well. A week prior to surgery I experienced right foot drop to go along with the horrible back pain. My herniated disc was compromissing about 95% of my spinal canal. When I woke from surgery I was unable to walk or move my legs. After 40 days in intensive rehab, I came home using a walker. I am still using a walker for long distances and trying to get used to a cane. I still have almost no balance and can only stand on my own for a few seconds. Was wondering if anyone else had any issues like me or if it was normal?

    Hi you'llthinkofstay,

I am currently going through a very similar experience to what you described above, and was wondering if you'd be able to share some follow-up on your situation?

I just left rehab in the same walker/balance/endurance mobility, plus some bladder incontinence, and could really use the guidance of someone who is going through this ordeal with me, but perhaps a little further along the road. Any words, even a few bullet points, would mean a lot.
