just had T-10 to L- 3 Rods and all hardware removed

HELP...I am 59 and a half... one week into my recovery from Hardware removal surgery from T-10 to L-3...the screws were damaging the soft tissue and 3 year of constant level 7-8 on the pain scale...the pain and internal organs started to become involved....anyway...I really need some help as to know what to sort of expect....it's been a huge time gap from from initial surgery to now....

Bit of back round...a nice mare I have conditioned for two years from fall to spring to keep her field and show ready got spooked and went over on top of me...broke my helmet..closed head injury, multiple Anterior rib fractures with intercostal muscle tearing, collapsed lung, heart bruised, posterior rib fractures and T-12 Burst fracture along with Left hand broken and pelvis in two places...in a coma about a month on a vent. Then the Long Rehab adventure.

So here I am after all that....now a new phase....yes i have been back on a OLD, SLOW 13.3 hand Pony /draft horse...We walk for about 20 minutes 2-3 times a month..finally stopped riding as the pain was horrible..as well as not being able to ride my motorcycle. grrrrr! I was one fun Grandma for sure..haha

Has anyone had similar hardware removal?? sure could use some words of advice......Thank you.....lardsgirl

I have no information for you as I am awaiting my first spine surgery. I just wanted to send best wishes for a quick recovery. I hope this helps your pain level and let's you get back to being a fun grandma soon!
  • wow and i thought my body was screwing me over...that injury list sounds intense!
  • Hopefully someone who's had removal will speak up. Your list of issues is extensive but you seem to be a positive person! A great outlook can help you untold amounts in your new healing journey. Good luck

Your injuries are more severe than most of us including myself. I just had artificial disc replacement a mont ago. I know that tumeric helps with inflammation but it takes a couple weeks to get in your system. Also if you like tea organic ginger tea a few times a day will help your body heal otherwise you can purchase capsules. I know someone with a similar situation as yours who was hit by a car just outside of her car. She told me gabapenton worked best for her pain but stated it took a few weeks for side effects of medication to subside. I hope you have a good doctor and a healthy recovery.
