Hi, my name is Dan and I'm recovering from my second spinal fusion. The first one I had back in 2012, I didn't get any bone growth and I dealt with a lot of continued and new pain so I went back in for a re-vision in February 2015. I am 1 month post op and was wondering how people that have had to have revisions went about their 2nd recovery? My doctor used my own bone for this latest surgery and has recently had me start wearing a bone growth stimulator. I'm only 4 weeks post op but am still dealing with a considerable amount of pain, especially on the right side where he took my bone. Has anyone use any type of supplements such as calcium or vitamin deal after their fusion to help with the healing and new bone growth. I talked with my Dr. and he said there was no scientific studies that that helped any but I figured it couldn't hurt. Like I said this is my 2nd fusion now and I don't want to have to do it again. If anyone has advice on supplements, how long I should be walking per day or any other things that you want to share from your experience please feel free as I'd appreciate the advice. Guess I just have to hope for a little luck that this time my bone will grow and create a solid fusion. Thanks for listening to my experience!

I also had to have 2 surgeries because first one didn't fuse. I tried the bone growth stimulator but it didn't work? I really don't know of any supplements to help promote fusion? I can tell you though, if you are taking any ibuprofen, stop taking them. My first surgeon didn't believe me when I told him I was in more pain after ther surgery, than before it. He wouldn't prescribe me any pain meds. Just told me to take ibuprofen. I was taking them everyday. When I found my new surgeon, he discovered that my neck didn't fuse. When we got to talking about what meds I was taking, he told me ibuprofen can slow bone growth? I wish you luck that this fusion takes!
  • Wearing bone stimulator and have hard time sleeping and wearing stimulator. Does anyone else have muscle pain from wearing it. I am 15 days post op. Thanks. Julie
