I am in need of some advice from fellow chronic pain sufferers. I ruptured L5S1 disk August 2009, Since that time, I have had 4 back surgeries, last being anterior/posterior fusion at L5S1, multiple steroid injections, spinal cord stimulator 7 day trial and most recently radiofrequency ablation-none with any success. I also have permanent nerve damage from my first fusion, July 2010. I am now considering a pain medication pump as a last resort to some sort of relief! I have taken almost every pain medication known to man!! They definitely help but am concerned with long term risk-it's already been over 5 years. My understanding is that the pump requires much less medication and works better than oral medications because it is released directly into spinal canal. I have gained quite a bit of weight due to medications and my lack of movement and it is now beginning to affect my health. Most recent blood work showed elevated cholesterol and glucose. Has anyone tried or currently using one of these pain pumps?? If so, would love some feedback on your experience. Thanks so much!!
