We are at a loss, my mother has had severe breath taking stabbing pain in her thoracic area that radiates around her chest. We have some MD's who think it's her hip, which they want her to have a hip replacement. Has anyone ever encountered this direction of radiating pain? All I find is radiating through back and down the legs. Thank you in advance

arthritis started to rip through my body. First, it was the shoulders, which I have now had both totally replaced with implants.
Then it was the hips, which I have both totally replaced with implants. My bone scans and X-rays are showing my knees are going also.

But while I was dealing with my hip problems, never had any upper back problems If anything, it would be associated with the lower back region (L4/L5 L5,S1)

  • If and when your mother gets some concrete answers about her hip referring pain to her thoracic spine, please share with me! I suffer those same symptoms, and I don't have any explanations yet. Thanks! Julia Walker

I NEVER had any upper back, cervical issues until I has both knees replaced in 2013. Since then, the pain and stiffness gradually started and increase to the point that I am in terrible daily pain with neck, both shoulders and arm stiffness and pain. I had my left hip replaced in 2014... The joint replacements were a blessing as I suffered for years with my knees. But, I wonder if the issues with my arthritis in my upper spine was just a coincidence after my joint replacements or a cause for it?
