Anyone with an upcoming ACDF surgery? I just got told I need surgery at C4/5 and am moving forward with it. I'd love a buddy to commiserate with or hopefully celebrate with.

  • Hi BlessedMom74, I am Richard from Australia. I am having a C6/7 ACDF with hardware on 18 April 2015 - I know I am on the other side of the world to you but we Aussies are a happy go lucky bunch and always look on the "she'll be right" side of things! I have found this forum to be very helpful so far and I haven't even gone in yet! Whilst I am 51 years old I was in the best shape of my life (Taekwondo black belt traing twice a week, JuJitsu orange belt training twice a week, running daily, weights, swimming...you name it) prior to my disc herniation which managed to displace the nerve root and blow into my spinal canal - I really did a good job on myself! Osteophytes are also growing into my spinal canal and the NS is obviously keen to see them removed...hence the ACDF. This has been 8 years of ongoing pain, rehab and PT...so I am looking forward to being repaired...! Take care and keep in touch..I am here if you need support. Rich
C6/7 ACDF 18th April 2015 after 8 years of mucking around pretending it was something else...
  • Thanks Richard! I got your message in my inbox. Thank you for reaching out. I am scheduled for April 28th. ACDF on C4/5. I also tried every modality possible to prevent surgery. After 18 months nothing worked so I am finally being operated on. I am actually looking forward to surgery. these past couple weeks have gotten worse. Arm and hand numbness are worse as well as the neck pain and headaches. Had to be put on extended release OxyContin because the Percocet 10/325 was only giving me relief for an hour or two max. I hope your surgery goes well. Let's keep in touch. Thanks for replying! You will do great and have a speedy recovery and get back to your active life. I too was a very active person. I am a 40 year old woman who used to run, spin class 4 x week, yoga, etc.... Now I am exhausted all day and in pain. If I walk to the mail box I feel,I had a workout. How pathetic, LOL. So let's recover from surgery and get back to living!
