Hi ok where to start I'm a male about to turn 32 in April, I have 40 degree curv scoliosis in the upper part of my spine but that's not why I'm here. In the last part of Sept of 2013 I was rear ended on a piece of stand up industrial equipment on my job and the back of the equipment impacted my lower back. I had pain immediately in my left lower back and eventually when I had to WALK to the i.h.s office in the plant the pain started radiating down my left leg. I went through all the workers comp bull and went to their doctor and they ordered an x-ray and mri well according to them neither showed anything wrong so they said It was most likely a muscle problem and all the test were weeks after my first doctors appointment. About 4 weeks into this they started me on pt and it would help for about 15 minutes after and the pain would come back with a passion, the mri was the last test at about 6 weeks on the 7th week or so I went to get the results of the mri and the doctor was very rude and told me that there was nothing else he could do for me and he was releasing me to full duty at work. I was still in a lot of pain but I thought that I should just deal with it and eventually it would go away. I was wrong but I dealt with it the best I could I took ibuprofen for a while and then switched to aleve it helped to take the edge off when the pain wasn't so bad. Around October the pain started to get worse and I kept trying to tolerate it I could still do my job just not as fast and I couldn't bend over I had to use my knees which also hurt but not as bad. Now at the end of November the pain was unbearable and I didn't know what to do when I was off for thanksgiving for a while I got stiff and when I was supposed to go back to work I called out and went to my doctor and he told me I needed to go to the orthopedic doctor that I went to for my scoliosis years ago, he wrote me an excuse for the rest of the week and made me an appointment for orthopedic associates a week or so from then. I went back to work that next week for one day and tried to move something heavy and it hurt so bad I had tears and decided that I couldn't perform my job anymore and went to talk to my boss about my options he recommended that I go to i.h.s again and file a report like I did last time and I did I had to walk again. ( now I want to say this the i.h.s office is all the way across the plant which I would say is about a mile or so away from where my area was) I filled out new paperwork seeing as how if it's more than a year on the same injury you have to do that. The next day I called workers comp to start the filing process and they called their wc insurance company which isn't in the same state I got a call saying that I needed to fill some forms out before I could proceed and that they would email them to me I waited a few days and got nothing so I emailed them asking for the forms so I would have record. After about a week I sent another email and also called them and this time I got the forms I filled them out that day and emailed them back and waited about a week at this time I was getting nervous because it was very close to Christmas and I was wondering if I would get any money to buy some presents for my 2 sons seeing as how we live paycheck to paycheck and I have to wait till the last minute to buy presents and skip some of the bills since I'm the only person working in the house. We'll I waited another week and decided to hire a lawyer and it was about a week after Christmas before the lawyer could get them on the phone needless to say my kids had to go without presents from mommy and daddy thank god for mine and my fiancé's parents it is wonderful to have a loving and caring family. Now back to the orthopedic appointment, I went they did a regular x ray on me and a ct scan. The doctor said the tech didn't find anything but he looked at it and thought he seen a pars defect on my L4 and wanted to do an mri , we did the mri after Christmas and went back to see the results after new years and they didn't see anything on the mri but the x ray tech and my doctor got together before that and both agreed they seen a pars defect so he wanted another type of x ray where I was bent over when I had that he said that it was fractured and is highly unstable and recommends I have surgery now I don't remember the name of the surgery but I know he said it involves screws and bone graft fusion and that I would be in the hospital for 3 days and for Me to fully recover it would take a year. We'll after this I informed my lawyer and he set up a meeting with the wc insurance companies lawyer so I could answer some questions and I thought that didn't sound that bad...... I was wrong the lawyer grilled me on everything and I mean everything very personal stuff that I wasn't planning on sharing. I got a little heated which doesnt happen very often then when that was over my lawyer talked to me alone and said the other lawyer wanted to know what I wanted out of this, a settlement and for them to try to persuade my health insurance to cover the cost of the surgery or what? I told my lawyer I'm not signing any settlement until my surgery is done and I know if it actually helps me. So that meeting was a few weeks ago and I'm still waiting on a court date. I haven't been paid a dime since my last paycheck which was for the one day I worked in December. My parents have been helping me with the utilities and gas to go back and forth to the doctor. And My Fiancé's On Food Stamps FOR Her And One Of My Son's Thank God for food stamps. Her parents bought my son some clothes for the summer. I have to say I am depressed and I'm sure my fiance is getting tired of me and the situation. I feel horrible for her, valentine's day and her birthday are in the same week and I couldn't afford anything for either. Sometimes I just want to give up....... if it weren't for my two sons I probably would. I also forgot to mention that I have trouble sleeping at night and I take Norco 7.5 twice a day but it doesn't help separated so I save it for when I can't take the pain and take two at a time. Also in the past week the pain has started to move into the right side of my lower back but is still only radiating into my left leg which I don't think I mentioned at times goes all the way down to the middle of my left foot like electricity.
We'll if anyone reads this I'm sorry I wrote so much I just wanted to get it off my chest. I'll update this when I get news of a court date.
